Although this W.E.T. may not seem to have a lot to do with water on the surface, it nonetheless models a common problem facing engineers and researchers, namely how to identify and encapsulate the harmful things in water while leaving the beneficial (or at least benign) ones.  If we can understand the composition of various poisons, we can better predict and control how they will react to existing decontamination strategies or design new ones like in the Red Means Lead lab.

This cutting edge research engages students directly in the kind of research and analysis used by scientists using free online tools.
