The WaterCAMPWS has created a SURGE-WaterCAMPWS fellowship. The fellowship is intended to complement the College’s Support for Underrepresented Groups in Engineering (SURGE) fellowship award. The objective of the SURGE fellowship is to increase the number of persons qualified for engineering faculty and research positions from groups currently underrepresented in engineering. The program provides a package of fellowship and assistantship funds which total $20,000 each year. In addition, tuition and service fees are waived. Support continues for a maximum of five years if satisfactory progress is maintained toward the doctoral degree. Each academic year, the SURGE-WaterCAMPWS Fellowship will identify one promising student who has accepted the department’s offer of graduate admission and is interested in conducting WaterCAMPWS-related research. The Center will assume the College’s costs of supporting the student for up to five years as long as the student is a WaterCAMPWS participant. Criteria for this fellowship are as follows:
-
United States citizen or permanent resident status
-
Women, persons with disabilities, African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, Native Alaskans, and Native Pacific Islanders
-
Entering a graduate engineering program with an interest in pursuing the doctoral degree
-
Nominated by a UIUC engineering department
